Canterbury Tales
By:
Arnold Wengrow
Age Level: High School to College/Professional Cast: 10 or more players, flexible Time: Up to 90 minutes, 2 acts
A vigorous and adaptation of Chaucer’s literary masterpiece of the Middle Ages. Cleverly conceived and cleverly done, this is a breezy collection of tales about deceitful wives, philandering men, greedy and murderous brothers, old crones and seductive dancing girls. The staging is highly stylized and physical, using the cast as props as well as actors. The players become horses, streams, bridges, trees, wine glasses and more. Seven tales are included: The Wife of Bath’s Tale, The Franklin’s Tale, The Miller’s Tale, The Reeve’s Tale, The Pardoner’s Tale, The Nun’s Priest’s Tale and The Merchant’s Tale. A show with many marvelous theatrical moments. Presented in two acts.
