Hello, Shakespeare!
Age Level: Middle Grades to High School
Cast: 17 with doubling, up to 40 parts
Time: 30-35 minutes
This farce is an entertaining way to introduce student actors and their audiences to the wonderful world of Shakespeare. A narrator and his irreverent helper comically describe the playwright, who, in protest, himself appears. Will’s characters are then rudely introduced and they recite famous lines in iambic pentameter. Scenes from Othello, As You Like It, Hamlet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Adaptable for simple or elaborate staging. Also may be used in the classroom.
