Night of the Prowler

Age Level: Middle Grades to High School
Cast: 4F, 4M
Time: About 60 minutes, 1 act

A maniac known as The Prowler is terrorizing L.A. There is panic at the home of Burton Wingate, cousin of famous mystery writer Cornelia Sherwood. As Gertie the maid was reading one of Cornelia’s novels aloud, a black-gloved hand enters through an open window and drops a note: Wingate will be "dead at midnight." He gathers his family members to his home, but disappears. They call detective Hollis and search the house. Gertie sees the Prowler’s hand appear from a closet and screams. But when they all open the door, Wingate’s son falls out. Detective Hollis appears to show that Wingate is the Prowler, faking his own death to avoid embezzlement charges. But Wingate appears and proves that Hollis is the real Prowler with being a cop the perfect cover. Full of suspense with comical action and dialogue. A fun whodunit for actors and audience alike. Excellent for community theatre productions. Easy to stage with a simple, single set.
