The Great American Talent Show

Age Level: Middle Grades to High School
Cast: 7F, 5M
Time: About 40 minutes

It’s the final night of the yearlong TV talent show to end all talent shows. Seven finalists anxiously await their final shot at fame and fortune. Three self-important judges including the "Simon" character cajole and/or praise each contestant in hilarious ways. There’s a girl who sings a ludicrous "heartbreak" song, an eager comedian with laughably old jokes, the boy (or girl) who plays "Stars and Stripes Forever" on kazoo, cymbals and drums at the same time, an impressionist of Bogart to Elvis, and three others with "talent." This play parodies a combination of American Idol, America’s Got Talent, Star Search and others. All the drama is there: the fears, the tears, the agony and ecstasy. A fun show for the performers and audience alike.
